Ok well, I guess it would be more of a walk around lens since I'm on a cropped body for now..

Anyway. I'm stuck between the 17-40 f/4 and the two 16-35's.

From what I've seen so far...

17-40 f/4

Pros:
$800 new
Sharper than 16-35's for the most part

Cons:
f/4

16-35 f/2.8

Pros:
I & II - f/2.8
II - Faster focusing
I - $600 cheaper than the II

Cons:
I & II - A little softer
I - $300 more than 17-40
II - $900 more than 17-40
II - Larger diameter, meaning more expensive filters and I can't use any of my current filters.

Please correct me if I'm wrong or if you have any other suggestions for lenses...

I would grab the 24-70, but it will be some time before I move to a FF, so for now I need a wide angle.

Yeah, I was thinking to do the same, however, the 16-35 is only $200 more and gives you the f2.8...

I need it for a little of everything.

Also, it might be a while until I get whatever I get, I only have about $200 saved up, unless the senior I shoot today decides to buy a shit load of prints I'll have about $350 after today.

MMM you should talk to me about packaging. I make $500~ profit / senior session ( i hate them, tbh) but I don't sell prints, and my session fee is only $125. It can't hurt ;)

I'll make sure I talk to you when I'm actually good enough to do them.

Check out the Tokina 11-16mm 2.8.

I don't usually like 3rd party lenses, but after reading KR's review, it looks amazing.
