Considering that many of us (if not most) find FG worthless, I was wondering about the appropriateness of the contest prizes.
First: fg does not make us better photographers.
Second: because we're all photographers, the reward should be something photography-related
Third: if we don't use forum gold as a reward, we can simplify the contest procedures.
Fourth: more people can contribute to the reward system if FG isn't the only reward (which makes it decentralized, and we all know the benefits to that)
Feel free to add more reasons.
Suggestions for additional rewards:
Photography literature: e-books, articles, etc. Not the usual shitty photographyschool.com junk, but actually helpful (or at least copulated sets of readily available information).
actions/presets: although there are some that I cannot share (mostly because they are not mine), I will gladly make actions/presets for anyone who likes a particular editing style. This also includes actions that we may have purchased or dug up somewhere, like from a pirate's bay treasure.
Coupons/discounts: as a frequent amazon, canon, and adobe client, I often get exclusive online coupons. If the timing is right, this can also be a reward.
Photoshop brushes/tools: I don't use these, but maybe some of our more avid PS'ers can contribute.
Tutorials/in-depth personalized advice: again, not the crap you find online easily. We're talking real, experienced, meaty stuff.
A collection of world-class photographer websites that aren't easily assembled through google. Enough to get anyone inspired! (if you don't understand the value of something like this, just fuckin quit)
I can probably sustain the contests for ~year, but that's no fun. We need to make it a community thing.
What are your thoughts?
