Dog is cute but you want to get lower on the ground to take a picture of any animal, not from higher looking down..

dont you just love all the advice / help you got???

both pics lack the golden rule / rule of thirds read up and apply it (once you get better you can drift away from it time to time)

1st:
selective colouring is hated by 99% of photogs, it takes away from the art of photography rather than adding to it
as said above, you would be better off getting down to the dogs level
whatever that is in the background should not be there, it would be better shot in the garden with a natural background
focus should be on the eyes, this seems to be on the nose

2nd:
overall the pic is boring, needs something to attract our attention, a tractor / people etc it just needs something
the alignment is off, the roof is tilting left, align the roof etc even tho the horizon is tilting right
it needed to be shot wider and got more of the blue sky in (just see a little top right) it gives a nice contrast
because the sun was behind the clouds the image also seems a little flat, best to shoot it while the sun is relatively low hour before/after sunrise/sunset, this gives more definition with shadows and highlights

hope that helps
