I didn't see anything on it in the Beginner's DSLR thread, so what do you guys think of this camera?
I've never used a DSLR before, and i'm just trying to get into photography.
Thanks ahead of time for any input anyone can give / any suggestions around the 500 price range that might be better.

My pm box is currently 110/50, I don't want to delete them D:
And no offense to him, but i'd rather keep this an open debate so I can get more than one person's opinion who might be biased :p

Hes really not biased at all, and hes very knowledgeable. Hes such a Canon fanatic but he recommends Nikon at times when he knows its better. At that level, hes probably gonna recommend a Canon T2i.

Why are you interested in the 3100? Will you be using video a lot?

Awesome, thanks!
So definitely get the D3100 for 499?

Or should I get a D5100 w/ 18-55mm DX VR Zoom Lens for 675?
Is it worth the money extra? Or would a beginner not notice the advantages it has?

definitely get the D5100 if you're willing to pay the difference. It's just a better camera overall, while the D3100 is a beginner's DSLR.

Well, I can get the D3100 + lens for 499, and the D5100+lens for 649.
Is it really worth the extra 150, or should I just see if I even enjoy photography with the 3100 and maybe upgrade later?
