Huh?

A tighter shot. Half of the photo is just stray lighting, the storm cell is obviously positioned mostly in the right half of the frame.

Unless you don't have any longer focal length, try for a tighter shot next time.

in our city, you can have snow on the north, rain on the south, a dust storm on the east, and the west is warm enough to swim. no fuckin joke.

happened last winter, too. We also have extreme droughts (where we have to conserve water like mad), floods, and dust storms resembling those of Dune.

well I honestly didn't know where the lightning would come from because there was lightning everywhere but thank you for the advice, I will try to be closer next time maybe and will try to plan ahead lol. I happened to have my camera driving home one night and stopped at an old empty church. I was up on a big rock using a barbed wire fence to hold my camera still these were the only two that I managed to capture although the lightning was beautiful

I think it would be cool if you got closer to the lightning and not so much sky. Away from city lights is always the best. Great focusing though, and nice bolt captures! :) How was it shooting lightning? I love doing it, but haven't had much luck lately.

Yep! Long exposures. I usually do at least 30 seconds. If you have a remote you can do for as long as you like. And use the lowest iso possible!
