So since I've had my t2i for about two weeks, I figured I should post at least something up to get a little CNC. I Appreciate all brutally honest feedback, but I've only been "shooting" for 2 weeks lol.

I found this flower walking my dog and had to shoot it. The texture really caught my eye, so I'm posting in BW and color. The BW has a lot more post processing than the color.

Enjoy.

Let me know what you think. And thanks for the CNC.

I very much enjoy your b&w conversion, but flowers look best with color.

I figured most people would. I just saw the flower as a texture so I couldn't help myself but to try and convert it.

Thanks though.

Did you shoot this in Raw by any chance?

I use a pretty cool raw file blending technique which really makes images pop. Would look good with this shot.

For the first week I had this camera I only had a 4 gb card, so I shot in jpg.

I just got a 16gb card and this flower is close enough so I can go reshoot it in raw, which I plan on doing.

I'd love to know you're technique if you don't mind sharing.

Would make a lovely black and white conversion if you had the raws. This is just a quick try using the small jpeg in camera raw. You can see the tonal range in the petals really jump.

Basically it's done by blending two raw exposures using smart objects and overlay mode. Each raw is tweaked using fill/contrast, one in colour, the other in black and white (which is tweaked using the colour sliders in raw)

So basically have the color layer underneath a BW layer on overlay/soft light? Cuz I do that for some of my sports photo's lol. Gives you some sick contrast.
