I use my 50mm lens for almost everything I only use my kit lens if I let someone see my camera but I have never tried a tele photolens I have a month maybe two months left of summer if I work for my friends dad Monday through Friday I can get maybe 200-300. If I want a decent zoom lens how much would I needs save?

70-200mm is the only choice imO. I wouldn´t get anything that is below that.

Before buying such an expensive lens, what I would do is rent the ones that interest you and compare... I don't mean rent them all at once, but try one lens one week-end, another one another week-end...
You can spend easily up to 3k $ for a good 70-200, but maybe you could satisfy yourself with a cheaper one... only way to know is by renting ;)

I didnt say he had to buy the 2.8 IS Mark II. But even the older f4 L USM is better than most of the cheap telephoto lenses.

But I have rented that lens, and I know I wouldn't buy a cheaper one, unless I went for the 135 2.0, but then I still have to rent the 135 to know if I would like it or not..

I like to try everything on the menu first. :D

But back on topic. 55-250 is an awesome bang for the buck. And if i recall a mark II of that lens is coming out pretty darn soon.

I have the Sigma 70-200 2.8 Mark II and I'm fairly satisfied with it. Obviously it's not always quite spot on sharp as Canon's versions, but other than that it's nearly identical to the 70-200's I've used. The focus might be a tad slower, but not enough to harm me when I'm shooting sports under the stadium lights even.

I'm not going to complain since I got it for around $650.
