hey guys I was wondering what kind of camera I should get. I looked around and saw this camera; it seems like a very good camera for beginners. So would you say this is a good camera and do you recommend buying this? What was your first camera that you bought?
my price range is $~150-250

Welcome to the photography forum! I look forward to sharing opinions regarding our photos.

If you are looking to start photography seriously, I suggest you invest ~600 USD into a DSLR, and not go with a film camera.

My first camera was just as affordable, and it was digital. You can find it here: http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-3-0-Inch-Capability-Body-Only/dp/B002SQKVD0/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1306385347&sr=1-1

Good luck!

go with a nikon d3100 or the canon equiv, cheap as it gets while still being a good camera, i got the d90 a few months back, wish i had waited cause the new d7000 just came out and its boss.

edit: well nikon d3000 is cheap as it gets but id go with the 3100

My friend started out with a Canon t1i, that you can look into it.
It's a DSLR, for $600, you get the camera body, plus a 18-55mm kit lens, which will get you started.

i started out with an d40x

moved on to a used d200 - which for the money is still my favourite camera i have ever shot with ( the af was amazing, its handling was good.)

then i went over to canon,

But now i only shoot digital for macros, and i use film for everything else.

the d40x at the time was the "newest" camera on the market at entry level. If i had bought the d200 straight away i would have struggled with settings etc.

i suggest an entry level DSLR from nikon or canon.

in your price range you should also consider a micro four thirds camera. i spent 300 on a used Olympus E-PL1 on craigslist.
