I've read some things about this thing and this thing's standard-issue lens seems to be less that desirable, considering I don't really know what I am doing, maybe one of you canon pricks can help me pick a lens for this thing?

Camera body and all the doohickeys that it comes equipped with is gonna run me somewhere around 250$ I expect, after shipping, and I don't really want to spend more than 100$ on a lens if I can help it.

if you want a 100$ lens, get the 50mm 1.8. There´s noting else, besides the crappy 18-55mm, which really is crappy. the 50mm 1.8 has propably the best value for money on earth.
