No idea how many there were, but every single one of them was making noise, and it was loud!
Unfortunately I do not have a bigger lens than 55 mm and although I walked in the muddy field as far as I could get, this is the closest I could go.... no way I was going to cross the river!
A small group flew just above me, about to join the rest of the group. Not sure but I have the feeling they warned the others about my presence (and my kids too). Seconds later, all of them started to cry very loud and took off at the same time, then they went away behind the small forest we see.
Tomorrow they will be gone.
Each year, they get together in the area I live in for a day, then they go up North for the summer.
