Nikon just announced a 50mm f1.8G lens which seems to be a million times better than the crappy Canon version. It got much better AF, a real manual focus ring, distance scale, metal mount and most importantly much better aperture blades which means better bokeh.
So yeah... unless you want to spend 400 bucks on a Canon EF 50mm f1.4 USM you might as well go for Nikon if you are interested in cheap 50mm primes

but dont think it is going to be that much better, to warrant the price
think it would be better sticking to the old 1.8D for less or paying the extra and get the 1.4G (or D if you can find it)
