i am looking into what filters i should get
normally only believed in using pl filters
do uv filters help? maybe a little with haze etc?

i see hoya have a new dual filter pl and uv in one - anyone tested it yet?

what about nd filters, anyone use nd grads?
will prob get a normal nd filter for when i need to lengthen exposure time

Quality ND/GND and CPL is all you should invest in. Stay away from UV filters unless you plan to spend big bucks on them to get the highest quality ones. Most will degrade optical quality. The lens hood usually does a sufficient job protecting the front element.

The only other time i would use a UV is when i'm shooting near a beach where saltwater splash could be a possibility.

The big stopper is one heck of a filter. But good luck finding it in stock. I was on a wait list for 5 months before i got mine.

digital cameras have UV filter on the sensor, so UV filter on the lens is just for protection.

if you are getting PL filter i suggest getting hoya HD, it lets more light in than normal PL filters, has good IQ and is REALLY much more durable(glass itself and coatings) than other filters.

for grad filters i suggest getting lee or cokin filter system, because you cant adjust the position where the graduation starts on normal filters. also you can use multiple filters and some cool ones like yellow/blue polarizer(which is pretty much the secret for some uber landscape shots)

What do you mean if it was good or bad! ALthough the broken filter could've scracthed your lens, I'd rather have that than a broken lens.
