i've got the nikon AF 70-300mm 1:4-5.6g Lens, im wondering if i should bother upgrading to the VR version or just suck it up and use a tripod with this lens lol.

Begin by putting both questions into 1 thread. Then, realize why you'd need VR.

the dead pixels have nothing to do with the question of me upgrading a my lens, and even if it did have to do with the lens i wasn't using this lens when i noticed the pixels anyways

I'd consider getting a prime instead of using the 70-300 VR.
You'll enjoy better IQ, faster AF, and it will challenge you as a photographer. 50 mm.

I've got:
Nikon AF 50mm 1:1.8D
Nikon AF 70-300mm 1.4-5.6G
Nikon DX VR AF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G

its a really CRAP lens, the VR version is better but i believe the 55-200 VR is even better, i would just say read reviews, the infamous Ken Rockwell is a good start for these budget lenses

the 50mm is a prime = fixed focal length
use it more, its a lot of fun
