Some of you guys asked me to post some pictures of my setup once I´m done. This is what I´m starting with. 2x elinchrom D-Lite 400ws along with 2x 60x60cm softboxes, (not to forget my speedlite with umbrella) and some dark / grey / white 2,75x11m backdrops. I`ll be shooting with the 5D mark II as you know, my current lenses are the 50mm 1.8, the 24-70mm 2.8 L USM and the 100mm 2.8 L IS USM macro. I´m shooting with my first model 2morrow. We´ll be doing some fashion and portrait pictures indoors and outdoors. I´m planning to use the studio for private purposes at first and as soon as possible as a little extra income. Currently working on my business cards. I hope the golden river starts flowing soon :P

Anyway, here´s some snapshots I took quickly when I went by collecting something I forgot:

As you can see it´s nothing too fancy. a plain white room with backdrops and strobes. It´s enough to start up and get creative though.

let me know what you think about it and wish me good luck.

Where do you reside again? Elichrom's U.S support is pretty sub par. But the d-lite4's are excellent bang buck lights. Let me know how you like them.

I'm currently debating on a new lighting setup, I'm torn between ab800s, d-lite4's, x1600 or if I should outright get the Einstein units.

How are you triggering the lights? With a sync cord? Also, what kind softbox is that?

Good luck with it man! Show us some shots.

P.S- You need a boom.

I need so many things........ Just dont have the coins for it at the moment. My next purchase is prolly going to be a beauty dish and maybe a third strobe. booms will come as soon as possible. I already noticed the importance of them. As for the strobes, I think 400ws are more than enough to light areas such as my 30m² room. I´ve used em twice so far, and it turns out I haven´t even used more than half of their actual power yet. The reload is fast and they react perfectly. I just tried out to release the strobes with my speedlite. There´s an option that lets the strobes react to any flash that´s being released in the room, and then release themselves. My speedlite was on 1/64 power turned to the back of my shooting position, yet the strobes reacted instantly. I mainly took the D-Lite 4 it set because it included the stands and softboxes I needed. There is also a remote trigger and a cable. you connect one flash to your camera and release the secnod one with the first. It´s a great start into studio strobes I guess. Of course, if you pay more, you get more. The question is if you need more, which I highly doubt. What softbox is that? I dont quite get that question. It´s a simple 60x60 softbo with an outter diffuser, no inner. So you propably want to be getting new light formers as soon as possible. As I said I´m heading towards a beauty dish and a strip light. About the support....... I´m living in germany, that´s pretty close to switzerland, which is where the company resides. I haven´t had to use the support yet, but I guess it´ll be good. IN general you can say that elinchrom is one of the best systems you can go for around here. Dont know about the U.S. market, but I´d say 75% of the german studios use elinchrom.

Uhmmm I paid roughly 700€ for the strobe set, ~ 300€ for the backdrop set.

Boom = Great hair/ rim light support! Can't do glamour without hairlight :P

As for beautydish which unit are you getting? I just recently got a Orbis Ring flash, while it isn't a beautydish by any means or stretch of the imagination.. It does offer comparable results with a significantly less price tag.

The only reason i suggested more powerful strobes is because i thought you would be interested in on-location shooting outdoors. While 400w/s lights can do it, but once you add in softboxes/ grids etc.. your power level goes down by a few stops.
