Hey friends!

I was wondering how long lived your batteries have lasted you. Meaning when did you have to replace your battery? Few years, more? I was taking pictures the other day and I have 2 extra batteries. I had them all charged n ready. The one in my camera dies, so I go to grab one of my extra and put it in. I really didn't pay attention then to the battery meter but suddenly I had to replace it again... I've only had it 2 years its been very good to me. I can't say for sure I even charged it though. So, when have you guys replaced your batteries?

I have no idea under what conditions you were shooting, but if it was outside and it was cold, that may be the reason!

IF it happen to be that it's cold. Keep the extra batteries inside of your jacket so you keep them warm with your body heat.
When you replace a battery, put it in your jacket as well, you'll be able to use it again after a while :)

I was outside, yes, but how cold? I was in about 5 degrees Celsius maybe a bit warmer. I do know they use up more battery power in the cold. Where I am from its -20 out so I didn't go out much. But with the battery I replaced it with died even before I could take a picture... I was viewing maybe 10 photos and right when I was about to take a picture it told me to change the battery. Now I had one extra that I used and it worked perfect and they were in their same separate pouches. Could also have been a coincidence where I thought I charged it :o.

In fact, I charged this battery last night and it already shows that one bar of 3 is used up.

It is a generic battery not a canon one. A little over 2 years old (not bad actually) my canon one is older and still does its magic. I suppose it is better off buying the brand name one, no?

Could be. I've never had to replace batteries, even with the Sony setup. Maybe it's the Canadian Igloo frequencies that affect it.

 could be... Surprising no one has had to replace theirs yet! I think my battery is hooped though. I was just getting used to having 3 of them!

batteries are strange things, they do not have an expected life, does not matter on usage, cycles age etc only luck
you will notice the warranties on batteries really low (although at time you can get extended, replacement guarantees from 3-5 years if you pay extra)
even dropping a battery will damage it and shorten its life
