whatsup. i am a photographer for a production studio so I use their cannond 7D

I was a newspaper photographer for 2.5 years and I used a nikond300s and I LOVED IT and I really know it well

my boss asked "why not get the d7000?" when I told him I wanted the d300s. I dont know much about the d7000 other than it's a little less expensive.

I am getting more familiar with cannon, but already am very familiar with nikon

I own an old nikon d40 which I will sell eventually.

my theory is stick with what you know.... until you have time to learn more.

the d7000 is an amazing camera but i believe its a bit different as far as layout goes.

D7000 is great
good iso performance

personally i would skip the d300s and would only cincider the D700 or D7000
otherwise if its canon my bet would be the 5D II

Yeah i love the 5d mark2, my friend had it. But I think the question really is...

Go with the D7000. It out performs the 300s in IQ, ISO, AF, etc.

Sticking with Nikon will allow you to use the same lenses you already use on your d40 as well.
