Hi guys!

Some friend IRL told me that I need to buy a flash, because it's something that must absolutely be in my gear.

Would you agree with him? And if so, which one would you suggest? I have a Canon 500D.

I was thinking about buying a macro lens, but that's more expensive so my options are to buy a flash today or to save my money for a macro in the future. What would you do?

Thanks in advance! B)

What do you do with photography?
If it's just fun, get the macro lens.

However...

Do you shoot in dark situations often?
Do you find that your images are often noisy / motion blurry?
Do you shoot people for money?

Get a flash if you answered yes to any of these 3.

I'm not shooting for money, just for fun ATM.

I never had a flash and I don't know if I'd really use it a lot, but that friend of mine told me he always has it on his camera even when he takes pictures during the day.

Do you think it's such an useful device to have?

Top photographers use a combination of flash and natural light to achieve the results they want. If you learn flash theory really well, you'll automatically be better than 90% of the world's photographers. The whole 'natural light only' style is a stupid idea, even if sensors get ten times as good as they are now.

430 ex ii, ti consiglio quello
a meno che tu non voglia il top e andiamo sul 580 ex ii ma te lo consiglio solo se vuoi avere due flash in modo da usare il 580 come trasmettitore e il 430 come slave.

This. Using the 430 ex ii is cheap and a good slave.

On other news, I just got gifted a $120.00 pen. Best. Gift. Ever.

Honestly, the only time I've used my flash was when I gave an attempt at portraits I do for my family and weddings because they are always dark.... none of the photos are "serious" just for fun... I found it handy especially at a wedding when you just want to get some snaps of your friends etc. Plus you don't get that annoying "flash a hundred times before it focuses" thing.

Edit: Really, I do not use my flash often for the type of photography I do.
