So I did a wedding a while back, and now the bride is asking if Ill put together a wedding album for them with my pictures. She said they dont want hard cover pages, but at least a thick quality paper. She also said she wants something nice but affordable.

They want to pay me of course, but I really have no idea where to start with something like this, Ive hardly put together albums for myself.

Theres also about 1500 pictures, am I supposed to put all of them in this album, is that normal? o_o

I have to answer her back but I dont want to sound like a total newbie, so any help would be appreciated. Especially like what sort of questions I should be asking her, what sort of payment I should request etc.

pick up pictures that turned out to be good and try not to be too repetitive, i doubt you will have 1500 pictures left after doing that

my cousin paid the photographer $1000 for her wedding. She got 2 hard covered albums, couple framed pictures, and a few dvds. I'm guessing the albums had 50-100 pictures in them, can't remember that well.

Very true, there were a lot of repeats, especially for group shots. How many photos should an album like that have though?

Well this was my first event, so I did it for free. There was another photographer but she didnt like his photos, which is I guess why shes asking me for this now. We had never talked about any of this before; It was just a show up, take pictures, heres your cds kind of thing.

So this is kind of throwing me off.

select the good pics, and let her select the ones she wants in the album,
As for payment, charge according to the amount of pics she wants in the album, make it a good profitable price for the minimum amount and make a bit cheaper If she chooses more pics

Do you already have an album company in mind? If not, I can suggest some really good U.S. labs.
A superb album with 40 pages will cost you ~700 dollars to make. A decent album will run from 300-500 dollars to make. Cheap, simple solutions can run at around 100-150.

What is your budget for this album?
How expensive this album is to make depends on whether you want a hard photo cover, number of pages, a leather cover, size, binding, whether you want it flat or book-like, etc.

The point of an album is to tell the story and to show off your photos by designing it to the best of your ability.
On average, there should be 3-5 images per sheet, especially if you leave room for panoramic pages.
The amount of images you'll include will depend on the number of pages she is willing to get. Standard albums come with 20 pages, with a limit of about 140 pages. Worst case scenerio, 140x5 pages = 700.
Will answer later.

No, I wasnt sure what to look into. I did look up wedding albums on google, and it led me to a couple sites. It said their most expensive one was like, 60 bucks =/ So I guess thats not really what youre talking about. I just wonder why she didnt want to do it herself, she has all the photos on cds.

I dont know :( Like I said she said she would pay me, but didnt give me an estimate of what she was looking to spend..heres what she said in reference to it:

"In addition, how much would you charge to create a wedding album for us with the pictures you have? I have found many affordable options online; we want to order the most affordable, but nicest package. We do not really need the hard cover pages, but a thick quality paper at least."

Shes not one to elaborate -.-'

I dont have any panoramic images so that shouldnt be a problem, and once I get the photos narrowed down hopefully it wont be near that 700 either.

This seems like such a pain, lol. Thanks for answering though, I figured youd be the one with all the wedding knowledge xD

Designing an album is fun - you get to express yourself artistically. For albums around that price range, I'd go with Shutterfly or Picaboo. They're consumer album makers, but offer decent paper quality, easy-to-use software, and start you off with like 20 pages for 30 USD.

dunno, but do some selecting and see how much you got left.

what comes to that album, you dont need to get album that has the photos printed on it. you could buy an album that you can put prints in, it would get much much cheaper and you can put much much more pictures in it.
