Tomorrow a dear friend get married, he asked me to take pictures his wedding. I'm happy, but at the same time scared because it's a great day and I would not make some mistakes. Soon I go for a walk in the city where he got married, Nemi (a small town of 3000 inhabitants that overlooks a lake), looking for some nice spots where i can shoot. Do you have any advice for me?

My equipment is a D90. The glass are a 18-105mm and 35mm, I borrowed a flash YONGNUO YN560 (no iTTL and this worries me).

I did a lot of reading about wedding photography, although I haven't done one yet...

Batteries: make sure you have extra!
Memory card: read above!

Take many many pictures! The formal ones (make sure you don't forget anyone - make a list) and the surprise pictures.
Meet with your friend and ask if they have preferences as pictures - make a list.
Gorgeous pictures I have seen... bride getting ready, reflection in mirror, wedding dress on a hanger, the rings..
Some pictures may appear tacky but they may represent a lot to the bride.
Better take a few tacky pictures and have them say meh, than forget about taking them and have them say 'I would have liked to have this or that picture taken'
Remember, you can't redo a wedding..... well, not usually with the same person

For formal pictures that you take outside (preferably), look for nice architectural buildings in the area more than flat space with flowers.
Stones and stairs have a better impact than just flowers.. again I don't know what season it is for you...

Google wedding photographers and get 'inspired'!!

Good luck!

If you really start to get into wedding photography and you are in the US I would suggest looking up Buck-Eye color labs. They do great prints and they also have shooters insurance, which is like $15 a month and I think they insure up to $100,000.

This. I use Buck-eye for insurance.

Ok, wedding photography:

You'll likely be using the 35mm the most indoor. What kind of ceremony is it? Will you be able to move around inside it?

Does she have a 'court' ?
If so, how numerous?

Is the venue going to be outside or inside? Does it have a website (you can get an idea of what to look for)

Where is the bride getting ready? Are you allowed to be there as soon as she's put on all the undergarments? Don't forget to request it.

Are they going to have time / want to have a small couple's session after the ceremony? (or before, depending on schedules)

Are you getting paid at all for this?

in a wedding, info is king.

Start by saying that the marriage was arranged in a few weeks (she is not pregnant) because my friend is a captain in the Air Italian military in a few weeks left for Afghanistan. Today I learned that we are 2 photographers. me (friend of the groom, and a guy friend of the bride). Tomorrow morning I go to the groom's house to take pictures with his family (brothers, parents, uncles ...). The ceremony is not in church, they get married at city hall. Immediately after the ceremony at City Hall we are going to take some pictures near a lake. This morning I went to look for some place and control the light (let's hope that tomorrow does not rain). I'm pretty excited ...

p.s. no, i'm not getting paid for this :D

Oh, then it should be easy for you. Since it's just a city hall 'ceremony' then there wont' be any rituals to worry about. be sure to get the signing, and talk to the other photographer so you won't get in each other's way. If you like this and want to make a business out of it, remember to always show your ace and hide your joker (focus on the bride and less on the groom)

Thanks
