my new canon is not af using the shutter release it will only do af if i press a * button.
how do i set it to af using the shutter half pressed?
or is my camera broken already?

I´d always suggest newcomers to read the manual when it comes to cameras.

This. AF means you half-press the shutter to AF (and hold to mantain it), and push all the way down for the snap.

yea im working out most and have read alot of the manual
but i cant find any help with af in the respect that i need

Just change the custom functions back to shutter = AF/ Shutter instead of AF on FEL button when shooting with a remote release.
I always prefer to have those two separate. Shutter = Meter/ Shutter

ok i have another issue with custom setup....
i want to set the focus point without having to press a button first...
my nikon was a lot easier to setup!
