i have been offered a sony a850 with 28-75 f2.8 SAM sony lens for £1400

but i have been looking t the 5d MK1 around £600 and the 1ds MKi Around £850

Are the canons a better choice? and if so what lens' for a similar £1400 budget

i have never shot cannon nor sony, and i have no preference with what brand. i know i like chunky and heavy SLRS.other than that i want the best for my cash.

i plan to spend maybe £3000 in the next 6 months on other gear (slowly ofc - with a budget of around £500 per month) obviously as i have nikon gear i will need to buy flashguns, a tele a wide and a couple of primes, remotes and all that kind of stuff

Give me your imput thanks.

P.s yes i have been debating what Full frame camera to buy for months lol!

The Sony A850 is an inferior camera to the 5d 1. I switched from Sony to Canon.

my vote goes for 5d mk1 if you want full frame camera and dont want to spend on 5d mkII or have controls of 1ds mkII

From an IQ standpoint. 5Dc will will out against a 1Ds MK I.

50mm 1.4 is a great starter lens

But if you have the cash, 24-105L F4 IS is great for a beginner on a full frame body.

the 50mm will definably be added to my lens line up as soon as i purchase the camera.

i could afford the 24-105L the month after the camera, i know it sounds ridiculous but should i not be put off by the maximum aperture?

I vouch the Sigma 50 1.4 ^_^.

And 24-70L is a great versatile lens.

A budget alternative to the 24-70 is the Tamron 28-75/2.8.

Equally sharp but not as well build and slower AF performance.
