I'm going to Switzerland for months, and do not want to carry my t2i all over as it is a bit clunky.

Picture quality/sensor size is the most important to me.. Video and fancy little filters aren't my thing.

Ive been looking at the Nikon Coolpix s8100.. Let me know if this is cam to get!

Before upgrading to a DSLR I was using a Canon PowerShot A571is and the result were VERY good!
A lot of people here in this forum even said some of my picture didn't look like they were shot with a point and shooter..
I think Canon has some really good options for the smaller camera and are easy to use :)

Also if you are already using a t2 you'll find most settings are the same on a Canon Powershot ;)

Sister has the same model as MotherOfTwo, and I use it to take photos when she has gatherings at her house. It's a very decent camera, especially if you can calibrate its settings correctly.

sigma dp2 has same sensor size as your dslr, i think sigma dp 1 and 2 are the only point and shoot cameras with sensor that large. dp1 is bit outdated tho. both of them are built with a prime lens, if i remember right dp1 was with 28mm equivalent and dp2 40 or 45mm equivalent lens. canon g10 or g11 are good choices also, but they cost quite a bit for a point and shoot. sony makes good point and shoots. people say that the newest ricoh point and shoot(google doesent work while im downloading for some reason, so i cant check the model out) is the best one around when it comes to low noise with high iso(without excessive noise removal to blur the picture), good iq etc. different point and shoots have different strong sides for them, i went with sony tx5 because of low noise(it has quite big noise removal tho, so it can smudge the shot a bit, but i can always sharpen/use high pass filter on it later, also it has this pretty cool low noise mode where the camera takes 5 shots and combines them together to remove noise), IS, shock + water proof(can dive to 3 meters with it) and capability to shoot panoramas just by pushing the shutter button and sweeping the camera around. but on the downside sony cameras doesent record raw format. i did quite alot of research before buying my point and shoot recently(i have used dslr for years and wanted something smaller with it) and came to conclusion that nikon point and shoots are pretty crappy when compared to best in same price range, so are canons, unless you go with G series.

I don't like the handling of nikon point and shooters. I'll admit that I find canon a lot better at this point.
But that's up to each and every one to decide :P

Funny how people ask for input here, go to a store and buy the exact opposite as people will suggest
Why bother asking here then?
You'll find out at your own expense that if you are used to the handling of your Canon, you'll have to re-learn everything again, cause Nikon is very different.
That is exactly why I stayed Canon when switching to digital, familiar grounds.
Oh well, your problem, not mine :evillol:

I thought it was because you didn't want ugly, orange skin tones.
