So I'am working on a project with close to 8k pictures. This is being done for someone else. First of I scanned all the pictures
into the pc where I placed them in organized folders according to the album they came from.

The goal of the project is to name every picture and identify to the best of knowledge who is in the picture.
Once I identified every picture it would be placed in appropriate folders. For example, if there is a picture with
Jack and Tim they would go into two folders, folder "Jack" and folder "tim".

Once every picture is identified, named and placed in correct folders I would start to create a table of contents via MS Word.
The goal for the table of contents is to have them link to appropriate folders and provide a legend. Thus, If you click on Tim in
the table of contents it will start a slideshow from the folder "Tim".

Once that is set, It would be put on multiple Ipads to be given out to family members.

Question:

Are there ways to improve the efficiency of this project? I have not done much research on this but,
I must admit it's a pain having to name every picture and than throw into appropriate folders. It took
me about 4 hours to do 150-200 pictures.

Looking for serious input, thanks.

If you haven't scanned everything yet, do so. You should organize all the pictures into folders by face recognition first after they've been scanned, then batch-name the photos inside each particular. Copy/paste cannot be avoided on photos with multiple family members.

Now my question is: are you categorizing sub folders on each family individual per album or is it simply altogether, ignoring which album they came from?

This should take you about 40 hrs to do. 8k photos is a lot.

I have scanned everything thus far. The folders are categorized by albums, for example there is a folder called brown album. The pictures come from the "brown album" so
when its time to identify the pictures I reference back to the album. These pictures range from late 1890's to current where my main reference is the back of the picture
or a family member sitting besides me.

40 times 4 hours = 160 hours
I'am getting a hefty dollar for this but, its quite a nusiance.

You can import them into lightroom and spray the photos with keywords then sort by them later. Exporting each keyworded photo into the appropriate folders.

If you have a mac, Aperture or iPhoto would make your life so much easier due to better integration with the iPad.
