Woo yesterday I finally received my new Canon 50mm 1.4.
I've been waiting for more than 3 months to receive it, so the first thing that came to my mind was: "did I do a good purchase?"
Well, I guess it's ok to do a little comparison.

Both pictures were taken with exactly same settings (f/, exposure, ISO etc).

These are the two outcomes, striaght from the camera:

18-55 IS:

50 1.4:

Well I think these don't say much. There just seems to be a little better contrast on the 50 1.4.

So what about some 100% crops?

18-55 IS:

50 1.4:

OMG Look at those branches!!!
I'm just... OMG... :o

Do I really need to keep testing?
I don't think so, I'm just way too happy

primes tend to be sharper. that´s about it. you cant compare a 50mm 1.4 to that piece of kit-lens shit tho :D

I know, but sellers usally say "hey it's great, it has stabilizer too!!" and buyer usually knows nothing.
Then he realizes that kit lenses should never ever be sold

depends. but yeah, the general electronics sellers barely know what they´re talking about when it comes to cameras. Sometimes they have specialists for each section. But then again, I heard sellers say stuff like: Buy this one, it has more megapixelZ

Great purchase! Sharpness is very important. Additionally, using primes will help you with your composition.
You'll have the same reaction going from non-L to L lenses.

Grats on the purchase man! Just look at the bricks in front(behind?) of the house. So much sharper even not zoomed in.

Where was the AF point?

Ahah you're definitely right, I didn't even look at there

AF was set in the center of the roof for both pictures.
