Both can take great pictures obviously, I heard some good stories about the tokina though.

I use a canon 10-22 for wide-angle but I haven't tested any others :/

uhmmm I dont think those lenses are supposed to be used for portraiture. but they sure make good ultra wide angle lenses, which can be used for landscape and architecture photography. I personally have the tokina 11-16mm, and they say it´s one of the best uwa´s for crop out there.

but if you have the money I´d go for the canon.

why not go for the tokina 11-16mm then. it´s the cheapest and definately has it´s quality.

This is what I plan to get, when I get around to getting it. :D

Not sure if I want that 24-70L first though.

uhmmm I thought about it aswell but I decided that it´s not the perfect choice for my crop body. my priorities now are the 70-200mm 4L, then a new body ( 50D, 7D or 5D MK I ) and then the 100mm 2.8L macro.

that reminds me, I gotta send back my tokina 2morrow. they fucked up the lens hood for some reason. it doesnt sit perfectly on the lens, so it gives me shadows in the corners at the bottom end of the zoom.

About the 70-200.. I would recommend getting the IS version or just the straight 2.8/f. The 4/f is very nice, but at 200mm it can still not be quite enough to hand hold, unless you don't plan to shoot in anything less than sunlight or very bright indoor lights.

I've been using it for sports for a few months now and it can be a bit difficult.

I think the 70-200 4L is the only one I can really afford. It´s 1200€ here. that´s a shitload of money for me as a student. the 4L is about 550€. that´s still affordable. sad, but true. I think I´ll only use it outdoors for sports or events anyways. maybe even some portrature.

Well ok, make sure you use a flash for nighttime sports. I shoot a bit of football over here and the flash makes it happen.
