Is the entry level dslr buyers guide sticky still pretty relevant?

It was written in Jan of 09 and claims:
The following cameras are some of the most common and top choice entry level DSLR's on the market right now.
I am just beginning to lurk photography forums and research cameras, so I was just wondering if this guide is still a great place to start.

No it's pretty outdated. Best place to start is your local best buy's/ photography store and play with the cameras hands-on. Feel the camera, the button placements and ultimately the ergonomics.

uhmm well ye eeks tip is pretty much right tbh. You gotta got check some cameras out before buying one. I´d say go for canon because it´s cooler and the optics tend to be better in most of the cases, but I guess I´m biased.

it all depends on what you can spend and what your expectations are.

Canon has better primes and supertelephotos while Nikon has better zooms currently. Also canon glass are somewhat cheaper compared to Nikon's alternatives.

There are also other brands such as sony and olympus etc.. but most people are going to recommend Nikon or Canon since they're the major players in the game.

Just like Intel and AMD in the cpu world.. Canon is like Intel and Nikon is AMD.. others like sony and olympus is like Via and ARM.

LOL the way I see it, nikon is currently > canon in some stuff so I'd better increase canon sales 1 troll at a time.

thanks for the link eeky poo

e: is this info from the sticky still relevant

If you get stuck between choosing a newer Nikon or a Canon Rebel, remember this: all new Nikon DSLR's (D40, D60, D80 etc.) can only use the newer Nikkor lenses.

When you buy a Canon Rebel, it is capable with all EF/EF-S lenses.
So you can find cheap older lenses on eeeeeeebay, that are still capable with a Canon Rebel!

are these good entry level cameras?
