Heyho. Since I just got my first compact flash (430ex II), I want to get into the off-camera use of it aswell now. Therefore I need a few items and gadgets such as as light stand, a wireless remote flash trigger and to attach the flash to the stand an umbrella/ flash stand. maybe I´ll get a softbox or an umbrella aswell. but the three things mentioned before are the more important ones.

As for the flash trigger I´m pretty much about to get the Yongnuo RF-602. I´m not sure about the light stand and the umbrella / flash stand tho. I´m not quite sure wether I should invest alot more into something of quality, like manfrotto equipment, or go for the cheap noname stuff. I`m not building up a home studio, dont get me wrong. I´d love to do it, but I just dont have enough space at the moment. so I need something pretty compact that you can use every once in a while to create at least something that comes close to a studio atmosphere. I wanna use it in- and outside. I just wanna get some feedback, so hit me with your secret hints.

if you want reasonably cheap and really easy, but wont get your flash very far away, get that oc-e3 cable(or equivalent form eeebay(you might get longer eeebay versions than the original oc-e3 is)) that cheapest monkey pod(i bought one for my friend for his birthday present and it costed 10€).you can bounce the flash from ceiling and walls.

cheaper, but not that easy is to get pc cable instead of oc-e3 cable, but youll lose ettl metering afaik and need to use the flash fully on manual setting, but you can get much longer pc cables than what oc-e3 is. with flash triggers you also need to use the flash in manual mode.

whats your budget for all of this stuff? you might consider of buying that oc-e3 cable even if you buy flash triggers, because that ettl might help you alot when you need a quick exposure but dont want to keep the flash on your camera. you can aim the flash with your other hand and camera with other, if you hold the flash directly to subject, the ettl will exposure it right, same if you decide to bounce it from somewhere. also you should find out if you can use flash from camera as a master(that doesent show in picture) for the external flash of yours.
