I'd love to get closer to these little fellas, but I don't have the right equipment. So I have to make do. I thought they turned out decent for what they are worth.

depending on what lens you used, you could try a 100% crop?

First is way better then second.
Second one has a quite distractive background, first is clean and has a nice composition.
Also the contrasts between orange and green helps the lady bug take it's place as the key component of the picture :)

First is really nice however :)

I actually think that first one is a lot more distracting than the second although I do agree about the contrast in color. The only really distracting thing I see about the second one is that little ummm leaf I guess in the lower left hand corner. The bokeh looks nice in the second too. I also love that little spiderweb that you can see on the leaves in the second photo ^_^ as for the 100% crop I don't really think that's a good idea unless you're ok with losing a little quality... am I right? or do I have that totally wrong?

Hmm - how do I do that? I'm not sure what 100% crop is. For all I know, I could do a 30% crop and not know what's what. I used the canon 50mm 1.8 on these shots.

Thanks! I actually liked the background of the second one, but we all see it differently; it's nice to see what others think.

Ah, you guys are funny. I didn't even notice that little "thing" in the left corner  until you mentioned it. I am not sure if the crop would lose quality, it's probably worth a try to see & have the info for future reference. Thanks for the comment!

I feel like the colours are a little off. The second has this purple/orange glow over it and I think the subject is not big enough to use that kind of composition(sharp focus on the subject, fully blurred background..)
