Finally found a way to do something 'decent' with the background...
There are always a lot of distractions in a photo of a horse show...
Other horses, other jumps, people, banners, etc...
This one was done using the clone tool and the 'barbouillage' on GIMP..
Nothing fancy, but for me, if this was my horse and me on it, I'd prefer this kind of background instead of one where I can see someone picking his nose
It is extremely hard to get good pictures of jumping horses, so thinking about bohkey (whatever the spellng is) is out of the question for me.

I only had my 50 mm lens and couldn't get closer than this to a jump.

Camera Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi
Exposure 0.001 sec (1/1600)
Aperture f/2.8
Focal Length 50 mm
ISO Speed 400
Exposure Bias +2/3 EV
Exposure Program Shutter speed priority AE

Pretty good job in framing everything. I like the detail as well.

If I took a picture like this, guaranteed it might be blurry

You need at least a 7D to take REALLY good pictures of horses. I'd skip the 5d and go to the 1d series after that.

Skip the 5d? Nah.. it's an amazing camera man. What would be the big difference with the 1d if you use the same lense? Don't think there really is any except for even more MP

about the picture:

Great! Just a little tight crop maybe, I wouldve left at at least one side a little more space

Because my group often does more than one wedding at a time, so I rent one out (which has paid for itself already).
I use 2 in every wedding (one carrying a 24-70 or a prime, the other my fav lens: 70-200 L IS MKII), and in case the third isn't used on another event, it is left as a backup or is used by a female photographer I work that second shoots OR in rare occasions used by a trustworthy and advanced intern.
The 5d MK II is probably the best camera for weddings at its price out there - not even the D700 is better. Ofc a 5d MKII + a d700 would be the best combination, but glass isn't interexchangeable.

I need money to pay for my vet bill..... I had a horse who spent 9 days in the hospital, had surgery, 3 transfusions and miraculously survived.......
Then I need money to feed my kids something better than macaroni....
And also I need money to get my roof repaired cause I'm sick and tired of the leaking and the freezing every winter...
And the other bills that keep piling up cause there is only one salary in the house (the ex doesn't even pay child support.. )
Then maybe I can start about upgrading...... :(
I am lucky enough I upgraded from the point and shoot before the horse had a very bad luck...

And this all makes you appreciate things.

I don't know why they keep suggesting you to upgrade and buy you new things when you've said things like this plenty of times ;)
