Photo session with a young lady who went to my high school. These are some of my favorite shots. The last one is obviously a bit odd, but I like it. She was so pleased with them! During the time spend with her she was going on and on about how ugly/fat she thought she was. And how she wants to start loving herself. She told me that these photos gave her what she was looking for, and she no longer wants to think that way about herself again. This made me very happy to have that impact on her!

The first one is my favourite because of the photo idea/composition. Somehow I always love grass as a background in portraits.

The second is too bright, I do see what you're trying to achieve with the editing style but this is a little much.

She looks straight into the camera in 3 of the 4 photos which can make your pictures look a little cheap. She is using the exact same expression in 3 of 4 pictures but definately in the first two it works well. These two things obviously come with using someone who is not a model - as a model.

When you read it like this it does seem pretty negative but I don't mean it like that, they are good photo's, just saying what I think would make them perfect!

Well somewhat "negative" feedback is better than none! I understand what you mean! Thank you for the time you spent looking and commenting, I appreciate it! :)

1st: She looks very uncomfortable and the pose seems very unflattering. She looks larger here because her chin is lost without shadow definition and her cheeks are pushed up. Also, I keep tilting my head left.

2nd: Cool, pretty straight forward.

3rd: Would of gone a little tighter or even really tight (headshot) because I like the natural rim light. Probably the nicest shot of her because her skin colour looks normal and the tones are soft and warm.

4th: The grass is really distracting. Maybe try using it to frame the subject and go in tight. Try a really shallow f stop to separate the subject?

exactly my thoughts.

3rd is imo the best, tho i would have tried getting a better DoF and maybe get closer to her.

This, should make ur model have a bit more contrast, possibly a change in the clothes.
