I use Lightroom to fix the color up a bit on my pictures, but I'm finding it hard to find a good way to fix up Portraits in Lightroom, does anyone have any tips?

What exactly are you trying to fix?

Colour? Tone? Blemishes?

Do you have photoshop?

lol that's not fixing/correcting colours :/

You are going to need photoshop to do stuff like that. Plus, it will only work if it is shot in a certain way using the appropriate flash heads/modifiers.

There is a lot of mid tone contrast and saturation involved in that look. It's a lengthy process when done correctly but there are "plug-in" filters which will do it the messy way.

It's possible to do most if not all of that look in Lightroom, provided the photo has the basic elements already to work with, otherwise it's to Photoshop it goes.

And as to how to do it? Well, I can do it in Lightroom, but I sure as hell can't explain how because it takes trial and error and each set of eyes are different as to what looks good.

Any push in the right direction would be helpful, thanks. :D

Try there. An easy way if you are new to using LR is to grab a preset that's similar to what you want to do THEN tweak the controls and watch the change.
You get good after a while. I used to use presets quite a bit and occasionally I still do ... but I find myself just manipulating each control as to how I want it to be.

Looks like the work of Topaz Adjust (PS plug-in) for the picture you linked...obviously no way to tell though.
