Ah! A great shot, too bad the pop up wasn't a little bit more round on the top, otherwise, a great shot!

I'll give you a 7 out of 10!

By the way, what was your setup for this? Just a simple blue background and one flash?

Here's mine try at water drop photography, I didn't have a very good setup so this doesn't look the greatest. No editing other than the crop. I don't like what Flickr did to it though.

Uh, first off this is an old shot, and it was the first time doing water drops. I was just throwing it up here for starters for the thread. I have quite a few more this was just the first one I brought up ^^ I don't edit water drop shots as there is no need. Background was white. Color is created from a color filter/ gel on the flash and white balance settings. I may be wrong, but white balance setting was set to tungsten and the filter/ gel was green. Shooting with tungsten makes shit incredibly blue... One flash to the corner of the cake pan I used for the water dish. Shot at an angle to the white background to bounce off then back towards camera.

On to your shot. Its pretty underexposed. Shutter wasn't nearly fast enough which makes your drop pretty soft. Seems like you were shooting your flash direct at it... If so, next time you play with drops, try shooting the flash from and angle off to the side. This will give you better lighting for the surface of the water. I'm gonna give you 4/10. Keep experimenting with this, water drops are fun and cam be quite addicting to shoot. Keep shooting them.

Here is another one of my water drop shots from the first time I did it... Much nicer colors in this.

The shutter speed was faster then it was needed. The reason it is soft is because I used studio lights rather than strobes and only 1 flash. I can't have the flash off at other angles because I don't have any wireless transmitters and receivers yet or any other way to make the flash off camera. Also, the photo isn't under exposed, I was using a dye in the water to make the red ball and when the water it was going into was red due to the angle and the different lights it turned out much darker. I plan to do some more shooting, but I really need to get some things for a wireless flash. I just haven't got around to it. I also don't have any gels, but I guess I can just change the white balance in most cases.

You honestly don't need all that fancy lighting... All you need is one flash. You also don't need a wireless transmitter, you can use a sync cord just as well. Color of the surface water can be changed by having a background color, but you have to shoot your flash at it and have it bounce off. You just need to tweak you setup slightly and you will get much better results in my opinion. And still to me it seems underexposed. Sure your drop is red, but the surface water is all brown... To me that is underexposed. I think side lighting will help with that surface color though.

8/10 I love the timing, the color and the clarity of the drop, I also like the fact that it is off centered.

I don't have sync cord either.

Also, saying it is underexposed is like saying a black piece of paper that is black is underexposed. Also, I have never shot them before, I didn't know that I could get away with just my single flash.

the focus is off. the bees aren´t sharp. overall you failed at shooting a macro. saturation is quite cool and I like the yellow. composition lacks aswell tho. Ima give it a harsh 4/10

7/10!

You did a lovely job at capturing the darts and I love the detail of the designs on them. A bit too noisy for my taste, but overall a great shot.
