I know that the 11-16 is top rated, but what I'm more interested is the focal lengths.

Those of you who own a wide angle lens, do you ever feel that you are restrained by short focal length variations?

This is my main concern. I'd rather buy the 11-16 as the lens itself seem to be very nice.

Thankful for all input :)

well i have a 10-20mm sigma, and tbh i would have bought a 10 mm prime to me its about wide angle and cropping images to size.

if i was you i would get the 11-16 as its supposted to be super sharp around the edges so its a good choice.

i mean if you want focal range dont go for a wide angle i guess.

imO it´s obvious that you should get the 11-16mm if you´re going for ultra wide angle. I mean....... when shooting ultra wide angle, you´d propably want the smallest possible lower end focal length.... you dont really have to care about the upper end, since you can easily cover the length above 16 with your standard zoom kit lens or others. plus, the 11-16mm seems to have better specs.

i think that not having a large focal range can be a very positive thing for photography...

instead of trying to make your subject fit into your focal range by simply standing still and zooming in and out, with a prime lens/one with a low range you will have to move around, use your brain and creativity and develop skills by finding a creative angle and perspective to shoot your subject

haha now i realize this doesnt really fit your post..i didnt read it all before i posted and im a little buzzed right now

What camera are you shoooting with? The new Sigma 8-16 proves itself to be a competitor for the tokina 11-16.

if you are just standing still and zooming, you are not using the lens correctly. proper use of zoom lens is far more complicated than using a prime lens. when you use a zoom lens, you still have to walk around and find the right perspective. you see the perspective changes when you zoom in or out and you have to find the right combination of the distance to the subject and the focal length to get the right perspective, you cant do this with a prime lens. not tom mention that you need to control the distortions of the lens or use them as an advantage.

i cant post to photo section, thats why i had to pm you. would be nice if you could quote this to that topic

titled: bullshit

nn to yell at me :(

of theese too I would go for the 11-16 mate :)

the build and quality is better, and you can always move yourself a little bit closer, or crop the subject after :).

im saving for the 11-16 myself :)

Thanks for your input all :)

These thoughts seem to fit with my own speculations. This probably will end up with me buying a 11-16 lens with an expensive CPL included.

I will also take a look at the sigma lens and see what it has to offer :)
