Is the Canon 50 1.4 really that much worse than the Sigma? I think I'm pretty much going to be stuck with the Canon because of the price.

I got myself the 1,8 (not as good as the 1,4 obviously) ...
Couldn't afford any better...

I've had a few people now tell me that the Sigma was more comparable to the Canon 50 1.2, but I still fail to see the reason why really.

Maybe I should just go for the 1.8 and get a larger lens. Being stuck with the 50mm as my only lens for a few months might kill me, unless maybe I get a 2x converter as well.

You weren't really much help.. I already know it is better, but by how much, what are the main differences?

I think I've had enough of those for now. :D

I have found every other one to conflict with the last..

Well most of those do agree that the Sigma 50 f/1.4 is better built, has faster AF using Sigma's HSM with full time override (HyperSonic Motor) compared to the micro USM used in the Canon 50 f1.4. The bokeh is alot more pleasing and creamy. The colors and saturations are almost "L" like and the sharpness is just something to lust over.

I know how you feel ... don't feel so bad, at least you were able to get one of them!!!!

There is always going to be better out there, but like we both know, we are greatful for the stuff we have and who cares about the rest! :P

Well Sigma is only better IF you get one without focusing problems :p
I have heard quite many people having to recalibrate their Sigma 50 f1.4 HSM and the only Sigma I have, the 10-20mm, had to be recalibrated as well and I am still not satisfied with it's corner sharpness :(

I think you are doing very good with your 50mm :)
and unless you are like me who don't mind wasting thousands on L lenses. Those mediocre lenses should be good enough at least when we are still learning the basics ;)

btw do you guys use comma instead of dot decimal in Quebec too?
I know we, I mean they, use comma instead dot in Sweden :D
