Oh hi guys!

Long time no see!

I'm thinking about buying a wide angle lens for my Canon 500D.

I've been looking on different sites and I eventually chose my favourite: Tokina 11-16

Anyone of you knows it? Would it be a good purchase?

Or what do you suggest instead?

I'm a total noob about wide angle lenses, so I'm open to any hint you can give me.

After reading a lot of reviews and opinions on the Tokina 11 - 16 2.8 it is a clear winner for me. Better control of CA, fast AF and built like a tank!

This, extremely sharp less as well. Not just in the center but in the corners also. The only downside to the tokina 11-16 is flare control, it's somewhat easy to get flares if not using the supplied hood.

the tokina is said to be the best ultra wide angle for crop bodies on the market at the moment ! considering the price of the canon, and the specs of the sigma, the tokina 11-16 is clearly the winner! go get it. I´ll do so myself aswell soon.

So it's better than the sigma??? Damn! I wonder what the price difference is ... I bought the sigma about a year or so ago.

Alan, you'll have fun with this lens! I absolutely LOVE it!

The Toki is better then both versions of the Sigma 10-20, but the new 8-16 is supposed to be really good. It only lacks the speed.

Another great UWA with some more range too. Sharp in corners and center but not as fast as the Tokina.

:p it's quite pointless using that lens on a 1.6x crop camera. It is meant for full frame which is where it really really shines :O
I know some landscape photographers use that lens on their Canon 5Dmk2

Anyway. Congratulations on your new lens! I wish I have had bought that one instead :(

The price difference is only a hundred bucks and from what I have seen and heard it is quite a bit better than the Sigma :(
Well at least I am still getting some decent landscape shots with mine and I have seen some breath taking shots you took with yours as well so it's not really a biggy :)

Thank you boys and girls, I think I made up my mind :)
I will go for the Tokina 11-16 then. Now I just need some courage to spend these 525€ :D
