I was looking at Photoshop Elements 8 (for Mac)...I was going to get Photoshop CS but its just too expensive and overkill for what I really want to do.
I want it to do more than iPhoto but not overkill like Photoshop CS basically. Compatible with Mac OS.

I use GIMP (legally free software).
Check on GIMP.org to see if there is a version for Mac...

I use GIMP too, but I'm still a newbie in it, even with photography^.^

Try the Trial version of Photoshop Cs 4 / Cs 3 for 30 Days to get some train
Also try sumopaint :)
