I have to make a documentary and I can either go rent a video camera or try and workout this camera's video system. Here's what it's capable at the professiona level:

Anyone have any experience with this , the 7d, or the nikon alternatives?

I have no experience in shooting video on a DSLR but I know a few people who do and they cannot stop raving about the 5d II in video mode.

Well... shooting on a DLSR I'm told is the same as still photography, except it's motion.

I know a guy who bought 5d mkII just for shooting video. It has awesome quality even when you compare it to good hd video cameras. Later he replaced the 5d with 7d, i think because larger sensor of 5d gives too small dof for video unless using too high f-numbers for many situations. Anyway heres few videos with each camera:

These were shot with 5d:

these are with 7d:

Ever heard about Magic Lantern video shooting software for 5d? Its free and makes the video capabilities much better, also it makes the sound much better. Heres a link to where you can find some more info: http://magiclantern.wikia.com/wiki/Magic_Lantern_Firmware_Wiki

I suggest using 5d with this software
