so for a project i have to have 10 " good" photos emphasizing color and detail.
im allowed to use one color or complementing colors.

any suggestions or idea on what i should take photos of?

Well the first thing that popped into my mind is the local flower farm or botanical garden. With all the different variety of flowers. You're bound to have some that have adjacent or complementing colors sitting next to each other.

except there really arent any flowers at this time >.<
i do have a flew plants in my apartment though.


now ive thought of things like coloring pencils/pens or some sort of different color house ornaments.

Well i guess they'll work. Don't botanical gardens operate all year round?

They don't have botanical gardens everywhere. At least not with public access.

O_o. Meh, maybe i'm just lucky i grew up in 4 cities all with a botanical garden then.

Have you ever experimented with using colour gels on your flash?

You could paint a scene or a subject using a certain colour.
