I saw this when I got home from work and had my camera on me. I think this one came out alright. :D

Other than cropping this, I didn't touch it at all.

Thoughts? I'm extremely new to this, so, try to go a bit easy on me. D:

very nice shot ... sad to know these guys are becoming more and more scarce in some parts of the world. I remember when I was about 10 or so and these guys would be flying all over our yard during summer. It was truly a nice time. I think I've seen ONE monarch in the last dozen years that I have lived here now.

Well, I don't know how important it is for you to identify properly the species you take pictures or...
But this is not a monarch, but I believe it is swallowtail (papilio machaon)

This is a monarch:

I'm not pro at all in photography, but I love insect and spider photography, and I spend a lot of time researching my subject before posting :)

Its beautiful and you caught it in a really special moment!

Its not that easy to take good pictures of insects in general...
They arent to be discovered that easily and usually they would move fast all the time :D

But i like the outcome here and with Marie you had the right expert on the species.
I find it very interesting to do more research on what you shoot and not just shoot it!

On the one side for own interest but also to broaden one's horizon and give a meaning to the picture taken.
Especially for insects or animals in general, there are so many species one didnt know before or wasnt really aware of.
And after making a good picture, it can be even more satisfying to get to know it was a rare one caught on the picture :D
