learn less about camera technology and more about light!

study some of the early works in photography, not just fucking HDR tutorials.

devolop style.

use tripods and filters and remote shutter release.

understand the limitations of your meduim and work within them.

This man has the right idea.

Amateurs worry about their gear. Professionals worry about light.

the idea a lot of people have that professionals dont worry or talk about their camera gear just not true. Everyone does. If they didnt, why do they still have the most expensive stuff available?

well still.

a good photograph with not so good gear would in almost every case make a better outcome than a not so good photographer with good gear

However, a decent photographer with good gear > a good photographer with a point and shooter

However,

I do think it is better to have your photography skills ahead of your equipment than the other way around. When you have become a good photographer, it is time to invest in good camera gear. All you need to get started is the most simple camera available that you can attach different lenses to.

doesnt "purchasing a good flash" imply "worrying about light" aswell?

camera technology is extremely important when utilising light. if you have an slr learning how to use the settings to achieve the correct exposure is more important than anything.

but agree about the filters and they are SO cheap. yesterday i picked up some old cokin grad filters and a polariser from a random camera shop second had, and they were £2 each.

remote shutter realise is also important but a steady hand and i tripod is just as good.
