Hi everyone!
I know I haven't posted new material in a long time... just been out of inspiration and it's so hard to get good winter shots I find...
I have trashed every picture I have taken so far
But I went on a week-end getaway with the kids this week-end in Ottawa and managed to take.. 142 pictures!!!!
Wow that is fantastic and I love digital for that!!!!
Can you imagine the cost if I was still using my 35mm film camera???
Better quality, but I wouldn't have been experimenting so much!

Back to this picture...
This is the Winterlude in Ottawa, Canada's capital.
This festival is so popular, hotels are packed, streets are invaded by people and you can smell the typical 'Beaver Tails' everywhere!!! mmmmmmmm

Skating is a very popular activity, and ofc with such a nice skating rink!!!!
8 km (5 miles) of almost perfect ice!!!
You can see the Château Laurier in the background, a very luxuous hotel.
The weather was sunny with cloudy periods, -5 degrees (Celcius) but - 14 with the windshield factor...
Just your perfect outdoor temperature for winter activities!

Simply complex.. ah, I love my oxymorons, really descriptive.
You have so many things to look at in this picture, and it's not overcrowding and looks effortless.

Well done(:

Very beautiful picture!

There are so many things and details to look at, still one isnt overstrained but rather curious and expectant to see everything.

The atmosphere feels very pleasant and harmonic.
Your description of the place, the smell in the air and the families added on top of it.
Makes me want to go there as well and have a great time with my family and friends with outdoor activities on the ice,
cheering together, then warm up and strengthen ourselves with a tasty meal afterwards.

I love this lineal and tunnel vision like effect the walls, trees and especially street lights at the side of the skating rink create for the eye.
Im imagining this when it gets dark around and the lights turn on, the ice reflecting and eventually even have a spotlight on the Château also.

It all kinda directs my interest automatically to follow the channel and its activities one by one until the end.
Then you have all the happy people skating and cheering on the ice on the way and see their facial expressions.

Looks magnificent to see through and below the arched bridges going over the skating channel.
This is such a lovely effect like a natural border or frame around to point the eye towards it.
Then you look up and everything kinda guides the attention to the Château in the center.

Its mighty architecture and appearance speaks for itself, but the way you highlight it in this angle and position makes it look so special.
A really nice position for the picture and also when they built it at this very place long times ago.

Thank you for sharing, its a little as if you took me with you on the trip to experience the fun of it also :)
