This was taken during the winter break, originally there were 6 deer together (4 adult and 2 youth), but with my noisy entrance, they decided to take their youngins across the field in pairs.
I remember when i was young that the deer would run off if they spotted human activity a mile away... now due to overpopulation and destruction of their habitat their behaviour has become compromised.
Its sad that the deer here are becoming more tame around humans. This picture was taken about 50 feet out while leaning out from a tree.
While I couldn't agree more with your comments about deer for the most part, that's only true in certain areas. If you hike into back country where the deer don't see humans too often, or where hunting is allowed, I assure you they are gone at the very slightest indication of your presence (as it should be).
Also, really really nice photo. It reminds of the type of stuff my dad has taken over the years. He's a freelance outdoor writer, so frequently he was required to provide pictures as well, and he was always explaining to me how difficult it could be to get a really good picture of wildlife. Great job on this one.
