when making self portraits in the mirror, make sure you compose it right. try to not have any distracting objects in the photo ( like the ventilator in this case ). I also wouldn´t use flash, because what you call "a cool lens flare", is just a distracting light blob for most of the viewers. mby next time try to put the camera somewhere and use the autotimer, so that you dont have to hold the camera in your hand and desperately try to make urself still look cool.
