No no. That's not quite true. I have seen shots taken with home made pinhole cameras that would make you weep with joy! My pentax me could take all of those shots and better. I got that thing for $60 (or less if I remember correctly). I also believe that we are making far to many assumptions about the photographers chosen.
(What I mean to say is that anyone can get a lucky shot and while newer cameras make it easier to do that. It will always be skill that will win out in the end. You have to know how to play to the strengths of your gear.)
http://www.starephotography.com/articles/disposablecamera/index.phpNot the best link just making a point. To be sure, from what I saw, just as many of those pictures were regular at home shots as there were out of country. You just have to find a way to work what you have. While the subjects themselves are quite interesting. Its the color, lighting, composition, and contrast that won them a spot. Not the place itself.
You are 100% right, I know...
I was hoping so much to win that contest, cause I can't afford a new camera right now, and I don't see when I will be able to upgrade.
Yes I have learned to work with what I have and I have learned to accept the limitations of my little toy..
But for me, to see for exemple the winter picture being so much photoshopped..
And people winning being already able to afford trips to expensive countries..
I understand it's not their problem if I can't afford it...
But for me it's a heartbreaker...

I just need many hugs....

I had entered myself with that flower picture... not spectacular, but I had gotten so many nice reviews here I had high hopes...
