I guess you really need to be rich to deserve to win a 1k $ camera...
The winning pictures for the 12 categories are finally out:
http://photos.cyberpresse.ca/88-6965/#enVedette/0/recherche/Rechercher%20un%20album/0/onglets/35/0/album/6965/169390/

And I was really disappointed to see so many pictures taken from traveling in very exotic and expensive places...
Maybe I'm ranting here, but honstly, if someone can afford a 10 $ trip to Africa or India, do they really need a 1000 $ camera?
Chances are they already have better.... :(
Yes I am very disappointed..
Not because I didn't win, ofc I wanted to win..
But it appears you need to be rich already to be able to win something free...

Oh well, you guys will have to keep commenting on my pictures taken with my 250$ Canon Powershot.....

Here's one I took yesterday at my usual spot...
Yes, I always take pictures at the same places, but that's all I can afford...

Colors are changing, but the best time will be next week and the one after..
Problem is I work both week-ends and won't be available for the beautiful scenery...

I know how you feel Marie, seems the people with the money can win much easier. Maybe they paid someone to edit there photo

I don't even bother to enter contests like that, not cause I know I won't win, I know who's going to win .. I'd rather enter in a contest that's more local and more close to home rather than a national one. The only thing about that is there are not very many local photo contests. They got rid of their monthly one they have here :(

I can only afford where I live too, so you are not the only one :) Keep takin' pictures! And stay strong!

The picture you have here is beautiful!

Just like with most things in life unfortunately. A $100,000 car will rarely lose to a $10,000 car in a race.
I'm not saying that it can't happen, but the $100,000 car has all the advantages.

Keep trying and keep saving up I guess. :/

But it's sad that art has to come to be this way. We can just BUY to make it look better, rather than try to make it better without the money, y'know. It's unfortunate.

No no. That's not quite true. I have seen shots taken with home made pinhole cameras that would make you weep with joy! My pentax me could take all of those shots and better. I got that thing for $60 (or less if I remember correctly). I also believe that we are making far to many assumptions about the photographers chosen.
(What I mean to say is that anyone can get a lucky shot and while newer cameras make it easier to do that. It will always be skill that will win out in the end. You have to know how to play to the strengths of your gear.)

Not the best link just making a point.

To be sure, from what I saw, just as many of those pictures were regular at home shots as there were out of country. You just have to find a way to work what you have. While the subjects themselves are quite interesting. Its the color, lighting, composition, and contrast that won them a spot. Not the place itself.

Yeah, I know it's not true - lol. But some people do it that way :) You have a good explanation here.

You are 100% right, I know...
I was hoping so much to win that contest, cause I can't afford a new camera right now, and I don't see when I will be able to upgrade.
Yes I have learned to work with what I have and I have learned to accept the limitations of my little toy..
But for me, to see for exemple the winter picture being so much photoshopped..
And people winning being already able to afford trips to expensive countries..
I understand it's not their problem if I can't afford it...
But for me it's a heartbreaker... :(

I just need many hugs....

I had entered myself with that flower picture... not spectacular, but I had gotten so many nice reviews here I had high hopes... :(
