Ya so i've got the basic 18-55 MM lens that is with my d60 and when i try taking indoor pictures without flash, shutter speed goes WAY down

and if i put manual and i get shuter speed to 60 picture is all darkkkk

Help ?

Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens

theres part of your problem right there.
In order for a camera to be 'quick' indoors. you would need the largest f/stop ratio possible (eg. 1/1.4, 1/1.8, 1/2, etc)... f1.4 or f1.8. This will allow for the greatest amount of light into your camera body and therefore reducing shutter speed.

Try setting your camera to aperture mode and looking at your shutter speed. Depending on the lighting conditions of your room (eg. indoor no sunlight) you will have to either add spotlights or additional lamps to your room to make the picture brighter thus reducing the shutter speed.

Your best bet would be to either add more light to your picture, or grab a faster lens. For the nikon i recommend the 50mm f/1.8 prime lens, its quite cheap and will have a significant noticeable difference indoors.

fixes:
1. grab a faster lens (50mm f/1.8)
2. place more lighting in your picture so your camera can obtain a faster shutter speed w/o compromising the sharpness of the photo
3. use a tripod or any flat stable surface and select a slow shutter speed.

you can set your camera to manual and force the camera to have shutterspeeds of 2 seconds but without a tripod the image will be blurry

Shutter speed around 1/70-1/80. (1/100 if your lucky.)
ISO 1600.
F-stop lowest.

Good to go.
Hopefully you have a good censor and the iso wont cause noise, I know that's the settings I use for all my indoor shots and all the recent ones of the dogs, and there's no noise.

How do i change the F-Stop ? i have nikon d60 btw.

no problem, always glad to help.

switch to the 'A' on your mode dial.

then focus on your subject (half press, on the shutter button), on the front most turn dial (where your right middle finger rests) you may change aperatures by moving the wheel left to right

at the cameras nearest focal point (zoom to 18mm) you can choose from a wide range of aperatures f/3.5-5.6
however on the farthest zoom 55mm, you'll be stuck at choosing f/5.6

might be that its too dark for that lens to use short enough shutterspeed, then u will have to use flash or get other lens

i put to A and the the shutter speed is like 20 seconds, wtf. -.-

try throwing more light into the picture.. any sort of lamp on close range will work.

Don't turn it to auto... Go completely manual, set the highest iso, lowest f stop. From there use your meter for proper exposure... No way should it be 20 seconds unless you are shooting completely in the dark... Its not the cam or the lens... You just need to be a bit more familiar with your settings and what conditions you're in when under those settings. Thats what practice is for... Hope it works out for you...
