Is it possible to find a decent camera under $150? Are the Nikon cameras that Ashton promotes any good or is it just really good marketing? Any other suggestions? Ive heard the Kodac m1033 is pretty decent too. Thanks for the help guys! -Matt

As Spencer said in some other similar topic, not a whole lot of us know much about P&S cameras. Most of us have DSLRs... I believe he said that going to a camera/ electronic store like Bestbuy and talking with the sales reps will be the best way to find out what to get...

You may post in the photography forum before buying a new camera :)
You have pros there who will give you really nice input on what is good and what not :)

In the photography world "you get what you pay for" applied to every piece of digital recording software in the modern age today.
This means if you buy a $150 camera, you're going to only get $150 worth of quality, options, everything.

Here's a VERY small list of cameras under $150.
I really wouldn't recommend any of them.

However, if you move your budget up a slight bit to between $250-$300, you might be able to find a worthy camera that will find a MUCH larger variety to chose from:

It's very hard to find a great p&s for $150 let alone a DSLR. Strongly disagree with this lol.

Read this, it's VERY useful.

Honestly, I think it's overpriced for a 12.1 MP 4 OP zoom. You're paying more for the touch screen and the inset lens. If you're looking for bells and whistles but not much power, it's not a bad choice, but for what you're paying, there are a lot of better cameras out there.

A lot of people like Sony cameras, but I am not one of them. I work in a photo/electronics department and I can tell you right now, Sony cameras are usually the most common returns from a 'premium brand name' we get. They don't take terrible shots but it's almost like they're built to break. My advice would be go with Canon, Nikon, or Olympus. These companies work pretty much exclusively in cameras/lenses/photo stuff, so they know what they're doing. They are the forerunners of the camera world right now if you ask me. Sony just makes too many products to focus their research like the companies I listed do. Their photo stuff is sub-par in my opinion.

I recently bought an Olympus Stylus 1010 (got it for $65, retails at $279, perks of the job :D) and I love the thing. It's a 10.1 MP 7 optical zoom, and it's very thin. I haven't used it a ton but from the test shots I've done, it takes a very nice picture for a point and shoot. The only problem I have with it is having to use XD cards (like all olympus cameras).

As far as Nikon goes, they make good cameras. They are probably my favorite brand of DSLRs. I don't know if I like the fact they have a celebrity like Ashton Kutcher as their 'spokesperson' but they are still top of the line cameras. My suggestion would be to avoid the S230 (the one Ashton uses in the commercial with the touch screen.) Again, you're gonna overpay for a touch screen, and it's really kind of a waste. The "oooh" effect of a touch screen will wear off after a while and they can be very frustrating to use sometimes. Touch screens are still kind of in their infancy. I would avoid them for now.

Also, check into the Canon Powershots. They're great cameras and competitively priced. The SD890 is a highly rated camera (10MP/5OP) for around $200.
