Nice dog, he looks a bit evil in the 2nd picture.

As to make actually a photographic comment..

Don't use your flash when you are that close to your subject, or diffuse it with a thin piece of Styrofoam or a few sheets of paper.

Back up a little, your pictures are rather close and it would probably look a bit better if you backed up and completely got his head in the frame, in the first it's partially cut off.

Clean your lens off, either my computer screen is really dirty or your lens has a bit of debris on it, at least it looks that way in the second picture.

In the first one it almost looks like the camera focused on mattress in the background, try using manual focus (if your camera has it), or watch the live view and make sure it's focused on what you're taking a picture of before you press the button down all the way.

I don't know what kind of camera you have, but in the first picture, if you were too close, it's probably why the camera focused on the mattress instead of the dog.
If you really want to tkae pictures from close, use the macro function, it has some nice surprising results!
But as Kratos said, the flash in close pictures doesn't have nice results... also the animal's eyes have a way to reflect the light that doesn't look very natural...

Try taking the same pictures outside, without a flash, you will then avoid the shadow in the back also...

Not meaning to offend or anything but most people who post pictures here would say it's for the art of photography, not to show off dogs, your xbox, or whatever. Post your pictures here if you want to be judged on there artistic merit and in the general chat if you want the subject of the photo to be talked about.

And this topic is going to get locked soon if this keeps up.
