I think the first one I chose to underexpose it a little to have the details of the clouds, same with the second one.
The pictures I took with the normal adjustments didn't show as much details or as many 'rays'.
But what is saturation?

Although what you say is true... I'd personally like to see it either underexposed to the point where you can no longer distinguish details, or exposed normally; but that might just be me. I personally find that your eyes get too busy trying to figure out what is going on at the bottom (the first pic). I do however agree that the second one looks better as it is. Saturation is basically how strong, vivid or saturated colors are in a picture. I'd show you some quick examples, but I'm not on my own computer atm as I'm in the states so I can't really explain it with pictures xD Basically the more desaturated a picture is, the less color it has and the more "black and white" it looks while the more saturated a picture is, the more colorful and overcontrasted it appears.
