This topic is to be used for nothing more than the civil discussion of offensive photography and the role it plays in society. (Including these forums.) While certain posts will be mentioned. It is not permitted to discuss them at length as it may lead to off topic discussions.

3: causing displeasure or resentment <offensive remarks>

Recently two threads have been locked in this forum. Both presented photographs that members of this community took offense to. One incited thoughts of war. The other presented images of an item that some felt didn't belong here.

Especially in the case of the first the topic. Discussion was taken way off course due to arguments that arose regarding the subject matter. As it drifted further and further off course the thread was eventually locked and someone who was very well intentioned lost a thread.

While these are minor cases of photographs causing a social disturbance. What other Pictures can you think of that have In one way or another offended you or the nation as a whole ?

How do you define an offensive photograph?

What pictures have you taken that you feel may be offensive to some and perhaps not others?

Examples.

To some cultures photographs are taboo.

Someone may find a photograph offensive if it is of themselves when the did not wish to be photographed.

"Once when a photographer begged to take a portrait, Crazy Horse reportedly said, "My friend, why should you wish to shorten my life by taking from me my shadow?" No photo or painting or even a sketch of him is known to exist."
