I just obtained a web domain to host pictures,
im trying to lay away from flickr and get a more personal site going.
it wasnt too bad the site for a year is 60$.. which breaks down to 5$ a month.

Has anyone else done this sort of thing?

Myes. Once I get some $ after the summer my site will go up. The coding is more or less completed. Nothing too fancy, but it always looks good to have a portfolio.

Edit* For anyone else who might be interested, as far as hosting goes I STRONGLY recommend "Hostgator.com". I've used them before and they provide excellent service. They're also pretty much the cheapest site you're gonna find x3 (No, they didn't pay me to say this :p)

I co-owned a site with someone else for a few months, I don't like them because their response times are horrible are site went down for about 5 days out of the 6 months we paid for, with Hosting24 I've had my site go down two times in the last 6 months, the first one it went down at about 2am I sent them an email at 3am and it was back up by 4am and then the second time it went down was on Sunday and I sent an email at 9am and it was back up by 11am. I also like Hosting24's Cpanel better, especially because of the 50+ Fantasico Scripts, there so convenient.

Oh. Never experienced any downtime with hostgator before. Than again, I only used it for a couple months. How's their support and prices?

i've thought about it but i think flickr would almost be better in many ways cause you get more exposure on flickr with the groups than most other places. really depends what you wanna do with your photos

The prices range from like $3.84 a month for 3 years to $8.75 per month and their support as far as I've had experience with is great, if your talking about Hosting24, I don't know about Hostgator's prices or support just that they have slow response time, or anyway they did when I used them.

Hm. Sounds even cheaper than hostgator. I might have to look into them after the summer :o
